How do you get ATI to work on Ubuntu 10.04

ATI worked perfectly under windows on IBM Lenov thinkpad but on Ubuntu it says no matching hardware found,Can anyone help out?

How do you stop the screen flashing crazily on Ubuntu 10.04?

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on IBM Lenov Thinkpad T60 and the screen keeps flashing.Do any one know how to stop it flashing?
