how to start broadBAND in ubuntu? ,its really creating lots of problem.....

hi! i m frm india, i installed ubuntu 8.04. I have ADSL-BROADBAND connection but i cant connect internet on it . and u all know how tiresome it is to work on linux without internet...
plz help me to connect it!
plz send me all specifications TO START IT!
