I am considering installing Ubuntu, but being a graphic designer, was wondering about being able to run programs such as Photoshop, Quark, Indesign and/or Coreldraw. How do these programs operate on this OS, or do they operate at all with Ubuntu? If someone is running these programs, please let me know if you are having probs or if they run the same as windows.

Hi, I am looking for an application that would do some sort of stock control. Something web based with a db backend not too complicated jus to do stock control and perhaps send out a monthly report or two. Anyone know of free app software like this ?Thanks

The wiki(s) are unclear as to what is going to happen when the distribution release of Hardy comes out at the end of April.  I'm using KDE4-CE with 7.10.  Will the Hardy release use KDE4, or will they stay with 3.5.9? In other words, will the upgrade to Hardy wipe out KDE4, and replace it with 3.5.9?  TIA!!

Hello Forum!I have a simple network question.  I have a Linux Distribution on a lapton and I have the network hardware ready so so that I can connect to the internet.  I already have a computer connected to the internet.  So I suppose in order to have two computers I need some sort of hub device.  Can anyone offer a suggestion about this?

Hello, I am planing on becoming a new ubuntu user in the near future. I am also planing on using second life on ubuntu. I am planing on buying a used hp notebook that has an ati mobile radeon graphics card installed. However on second life's website they state that minimmum system requirements recommend that you need a radeon 8600 or 9650 fo best performance. My question is, is their a way that you can run second life with a mobile radeon card or should I buy one with an 8600 or 9650 card. Thanks for your input.Ubutu_600

    The past couple of weeks ive been pondering what my next tat will be.  Well ive decided to have it be the ring three dot linux/ubuntu symbol.  I don't know, but I'm positive it will look great on my upper back around the shoulder blade.

while i'm trying to sort my ubuntu .... i have been trying to get some help with a couple of old mac boxes for some time, but i'm really pc man. :(  and i have tried several MAC forums and they have all been really unresponsive. soo.. can anyone recommend a friendly MAC forum? i'm just trying to network an old 8.6 (?) and 9.3 (?) to the shares. 

I don't feel like turning back either. (to M$)I love it because:

1. Wine allows me to play windows apps anyway
2. Wireless Keyboard battery indicator
3. Easy to install alot of different packages
4. It's the only operating system I can *legally* install. (I dont bother messing with buying windows xp)
5. Live CD/Install combo- I liked being able to use the operating system before it even started installing!
6. Has software I been using anyway: I always have been using FOSS software on Windows anyway (Firefox, Gaim, Gimp, Open Office.. etc)
7. My parents are happy with it
8. Easy ubuntu made it easy to install support for apple and m$ formats as well as flash and java.
9. Bash is very amazing at what It can do!

I am trying to use Ubuntu 6.10 for the first time... Can see my new hitachi sata hard drive in the bios, but Ubuntu does not seem to find it during the installation. It gets to step 5 (of 6) partioning, and says "no device detected." I have no idea how to get Ubuntu to see it. Thanks!

Hi, can anyone tell me how to install the drivers for a Canon Pixma Ip4200 printer. i found one on the wikipedia Ubuntu website but it came out as a different driver. Can anyone help please?
