Im new to this.. Bare with me

Im new to this.. Bare with me. And Im sure this is going to sound like a stupid question, but heres my problem: I just downloaded ubuntu i386, burned the image to a disk. It starts up just fine, and I tell it to start the OS.It loads, and the first thing it asks me for is a User Name and Password. It never asked me to create one..So how do I log in?? Is there a default? The only other fourm I could find about this, said there was no root, and something about SUDO(?). Can Someone please help me?

did you install it, or is it

did you install it, or is it asking for a password when you boot off of the cd?

From the cd

Its asking when I boot from the CD. I haven't seen an install option..

It shouldn't do that. I

It shouldn't do that.  I would recommend burning a new cd.

??

It shouldnt do that? What should it do?? theres no defualt?

It should boot into the live

It should boot into the live cd version of ubuntu without you having to log in.

ok

ok, if the new download works, how do I go about setting a password for root? or will it ask me automatically?

you don't need to worry

you don't need to worry about making a root password until after you have installed the OS.  You will be able to make the password for your account when you install.

Thanks!

Thank you for all your help! If I have anyother questions I will be sure to come back. thank you again..
