No Sound on Fiesta

Hi,I am unable configure the system to produce sounds, this is a Gateway laptop with integrated speaker and i have just installed Fiesta :).If i run any multimedia app, it shows that it is playing music or a video, but the sound is just not audible. If i use the laptop keys to mute/un-mute the sound, the sound mixer icon on the desktop repond to it correctly showing and un-showing that red-mute-mark on the speaker icon.I had searched and tried several solutions like 1) ensureing all the sound controls are on un-mute and levels are high enough2) sound mixer allows me to change from Alsa to OSS device, but none produce sound3) even Kmix does not improve the situaton then 'sudo lspci -v' produces :--------------------00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)        Subsystem: Gateway 2000 Unknown device 0317        Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20        Memory at b0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]        Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2        Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask+ 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-        Capabilities: [6c] HyperTransport: MSI Mapping(along with other devices which i am includng here,)--------------------I don't understand whether the system could see the device as line 1 or it could not as line 2 ????I am ready and willing to try out experiments, so kindly help me out ......n also assume that i am new to linux, so please reduce the jargons to a bare minimuns.thanking in advance:)
