VERIZON FIOS wireless connectivity

Brand new to Ubuntu. I have a Dell Mini 9 with Ubuntu 8.04.1.
My wireless will not connect to Verizon FIOS router- Dell says this is a FIOS problem, FIOS says its Ubuntu. . . what's the solution?

Have a look at "Dell Mini 9 wireless problem" at http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1104658.html

This suggests replacing "networkmanager" with "wicd"
