Ubuntu Newbie and Flash Player

Hi, I'm brand new to any and everything Linux. I've been using Windows XP for as far back as I can remember, but after countless virus attacks and other problems, I've decided to give Linux a try. Everything seems to be in order and running smoothly except for the fact that Flash doesn't not seem to work. After some Google searches and fiddling I've managed to get YouTube videos playing. But for games and whatnot, it just displays a big gray play button over the area, or it will just show the loading screen, but it won't load. Also, for websites like playlist.com or myspace, the music players won't even appear. I've tried downloading swfdec, but it didn't seem to help anything. Can anyone help an Ubuntu newbie to get his Flash working?

Make sure you have a package

Make sure you have a package called "ubuntu-restricted-extras" installed.

Look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683 It has commands for installing just about everything for video and audio at once.

Basic Toolkit
1) Download the Linux Starter Pack - http://www.tuxradar.com/linuxstarterpack
2) Look at the UNOFFICIAL Ubuntu Guide - http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Jaunty
3) Look at Psychocats - http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu
4) Download the Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference - http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html

Newbie Flash

Try this - worked for me.
I'm using Firefox 3.5 x64 on Jaunty x64 which is notoriously bad with Flash. x64 here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/install-flash-10-ubuntu-linux-64bit.html
