problem with synaptic package manager

I have installed ubuntu 9.10 into my laptop 2 days ago
while installing adobe-flashplugin(using sudo apt-get install) it got struck up
then i stopped the terminal( using ctrl+z).
later i downloaded adobe flashplugin from adobe website.
while installing it again got struck in the process.
I then deleted the plugin from my laptop completely.

From an error report was being displayed on the panel as follows
"An error occurred ,please the package manager from right click menu or apt-get in the terminal in the terminal to find out what is wrong.The error message was'Unknown error:'(E:The package adobe-flash plugin needs to be reinstalled,but I can't find it.)'This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies."

later i tried to install vlc from the terminal .it is giving that"
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?"

please help me out.

"Use fuser to find out the runaway process(es); and while you’re at it, you may use -k flag which will kill the process that is still using /var/lib/dpkg/lock. Then configure (--configure) all the packages (-a) which are yet unpacked and unconfigured, using dpkg:

$ sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo dpkg --configure -a

In the first command (fuser), the -i flag asks for user confirmation, and -v is for verbose mode."

Or you could just simply remove the lock:
$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock

and then reconfigure.
