Microsoft Lifecam Show won't work with Skype

I don't have any problem using my MS Lifecam Show in Applications>Sound & Video>guvview but in Skype I get a black box in the video test box under options. I have Unbuntu 9.10 on an old Pentium III machine. New to Linux. Have tried some hacks but may not be doing steps correctly. Any help or another recommended web cam that is more linux friendly out of the box?
