problem ubuntu software center,linuxdcpp

i've been using ubuntu9.10 since 1 month.
But recently due to some error in installation of google desktop(package is partially installed),The package installer is giving the error that there is already a
program running in software center/synaptic package manager,so it cant install any package.
when i try to install anything through software center it is telling that"waiting to other software managers to quit".

also linuxdcpp is very slow and is very often getting struck.

i cant give this wonderful os for these two resons.please help me.

Close everything - Synaptic, Software Center etc.

Connect to the Internet

Open a Terminal

Issue two commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

What EXACTLY are the error messages. Copy and paste the results here
