Noob question here. If I added a second hard drive to my laptop and laded Ubuntu on to it,would this setup as a dual boot system.

I use desktop with 3 HD - now I have dual boot WinXP/U9.10 but I had up to 6 distros+WinXP on the same machine... Curiosity kills...
You should be fine...
Check the bios settings if you can boot from other things...
First try CD, pendrive etc.
