Corrupted vlc files and now I can't download vlc

I had vlc 1.3. installed and mistakenly added a download from another source for vlc 1.5 also to get extensions. Now I can't click in vlc at all. I have removed and re-installed several times, but the terminal says: "error while loading shared libraries: libvlc. so.2 cannot open shared object file No such file or directory." I know I have to undo the mess I made in the repository, but I don't know how. Any suggestions will be appreciated by this newbie.
