How do you connect linux computers to each other on a network?

I have six computers running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.10. When I am running a linux machine I can see all of the computers using Windows but none of the computers running linux. All of the Windows machines are in the same workgroup (obviously). Is there a way to allow the Windows machines to see the linux ones and each other?

sharing with samba

have you shared a folder yet on your Ubuntu Linux computer yet? in the Nautilus file manager, right click on the folder you would like to share and select sharing options, then tick the box for "share this folder" you probably want to also tick "Guest Access" and if you want the remote computers to have read/write access then you will also want to tick "Allow others to create and delete files in this folder"

after you've shared a folder then the windows computer will be able to see it on the network.
