I have using Ubuntu desktop more then 3 years. Thire is no problem for me to install dual boot ubuntu 9.10 and windows XP sp3 & Vista.
When Ubuntu10.04 was released I upgrade Ubuntu9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04. After upgrade is completed the system will ask for restart. When i restart display was not comming be cause of my NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 Graphic Card. As this card supports only windows Vista and XP
Ubuntu is a free and open source software and so it will not support NVIDIA Graphic card.
This is where the problem lies
To solve this problem i have don this method.
In my home at present i am using dual boot ubuntu10.04 and windows XP sp3 with NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 Graphic Card
I shows how you can upgrade your Ubuntu 9.10 desktop to Ubuntu 10.04.
Start the Update Manager (System > Administration > Update Manager):
The Update Manager should show that a new distribution release (10.04 LTS) is available. Click the Upgrade button to start the distribution upgrade:
A window with the release notes for 10.04 comes up. Click Upgrade again:
The upgrade tool is now being downloaded.
Afterwards, type in your password:
The upgrade is being prepared:
You might see a note that support for some applications ended. Click Close:
Click Start Upgrade to finally begin with the upgrade process:
The upgrade packages are now being downloaded...
... and installed. This can take some time, so please be patient.
At the end of the upgrade process, you should remove obsolete packages:
The system needs to be rebooted to complete the upgrade, therefore click Restart Now:
when system start a box will open with five options that is

ubuntu with Linux x.x.xx.xx generic(Recovery mode)
