unable to bootup

running linux 9.10 ubuntu 2.4, and on bootup i'm getting a message saying " configuration for gnome power manager installed incorrectly." i've been running this for a year or more. i don't have the installation disc.

unable to bootup

Google says:
this ought to be a downloadable install disc and there are things on it to recover or reinstall etc. but you must learn about how to use them all.

You may have got corruption from improper shut down.
I've got dementia and have to re~learn it every time it happens to me. So be sure to get other opinions before doing this.
I think you can boot toward the hd but during boot after bios post hold the shift key down and it ought to get you into a text menu with choices like:
--resume boot
--recovery
--update grub
--clean

do some research on the matter and make good choices and see if this helps.
