Networking Trouble

I installed ubuntu 11.04 through winxp, after ubuntu boots up I do not see my mobile broadband connection when I know I have at least three bars. The only way that I found that makes the connect appear is if I boot xp and use vzm to connect to the server then restart the computer and boot ubuntu. Any know why this is and how to fix it.

I have always found that if I hard line the computer after an install then you can update everything including the windows wireless drivers. I would recommend launching ubuntu hook the ethernet cable up to the laptop and go to the additional drivers. It should work.

Networking Trouble

Smooth5959 is exactly right. Some wi-fi cards (Broadcom in particular) do not have an acceptable driver included with the Ubuntu load. However, if you connect the PC with an ethernet cable, the correct drivers will get installed automatically. After that, your wi-fi should be ready to be set up.
