Hello everyone in the Ubuntu community, I always wanted to have a linux OS in one of my computers. Finally I saw the opportunity to install it along with windows 7 using the Wubi. I succesfully installed Ubuntu, and get the logon screen, when I log in I just see the back screen and the cursor nothing else and the screen flashes.
I am using a laptop with a AMD Turion II ultra 2.5Ghz, 4 gig of ram, Ati mobility Radeon HD 4250, Windows 7 home premuim.
I downloaded the ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso and used it with the wubi tool to install the ubuntu.
I can spell and usually use proper grammer if I'm not rushed but I'm having trouble learning Linux. I see a number of people who seem to be in the know of Linux but their spelling and grammar offends me to the point that I feel I have to write this.
Whatup with this using "then" for "than" and visa versa in a sentence? Sheesh
Im planning to make a small nautilus extension which extends the search functionality of the file manager.
First of all I have a doubt whether is it possible to make such an extension which modifies the search
results.Can anyone help me out
Thanks in Advance.
CD install of 11.04 - read error on burnt CDs when installing
I mistakenly in my haste removed the top right panel in Ubuntu 11.04 and want to get it back. This is the part which has Ethernet icon, time/date, and shut down button etc... Ethernet came back on it's own.
Would prefer to have instructions do it from a menu.
I've got memory problems which makes using command line more difficult; but can do command line if it is copy and paste like functional.

I am totally new to Linux, but after a recent hard drive failure, decided to give it a go.
All my experience has been windows based, and I am beginning to feel like I will never get this thing installed! aargh!
I get to the part where it says "Detecting File Systems"... and it just hangs.
I have left it for hours and I never seem to get the installation completed message.
What am I doing wrong ?
I downloaded the ISO image and created a bootable disk (atleast I hope I did).
However when it boots, it takes me to a screen that gives methe option to boot between Unetbootin or Windows 2000.
I select Unetbootin and then star the Install Ubuntu option.
I enter the dteails and itjust stays stuck... the orange bar never gets to the end. Most diasppointing!
Can someone give me some clues on what I'm missing ?
