Nice site! I'm a Ubuntu fan, and a Drupal fan, and you've done a good job integrating both.

Hi,After hearing all the buzz about Ubuntu, I decide to give it a try. Installation was painless. Then I tried to install my old HP LaserJet IIIp. I added the printer to LPT1 and the test page printed fine. The nI attempted to amke the printer available to my Windows XP box. I saved a copy of cupsd.conf before making the changes. I restarted cupsd OK.On my windows box I added a printer, giving the URL as http://myserver/classes/HP and it seemed to take this. However, when I printed a Word doc., I noticed that cupsd died and no matter what I did (including copying back the original cupsd.conf), I get:root@myserver:/# /etc/init.d/cupsys statusStatus of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is not running but /var/run/cups/cupsd.pid exists. So, (1) how can I get my cupsd running again and (2) what are the step-by-step instructions for sharing my printer with Windows clients?
I have a black screen once the disc goes through the beginnings of the install process. I've gotten farther than this before, but to no avail. I'm on a new computer running WinXP, try to install the default Ubuntu, and I get a big black screen. What can I do? I'm lost, and can't wait much longer.B
Hello. I have no sound on my IBM Thinkpad T43 in ubuntu dapper. I have sound on windows, so the soundcard works. I have checked the mute and the sound is on maximum. The driver seems to be loaded correctly as well. I have googled a bit and found this page:https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/21804It said here that the solution was to flip a bit. But I have only used linux for about 6 months, so I don't know how to do this.

I'm having trouble getting Ubuntu to recognize my floppy. Then I downloaded LTS and have to start over. fd0 is not recognized anymore. I also haven't figured out how to save to a floppy from Open Office Write.
i have the ubuntu disk and i have a usb cd rom drive how do u make the laptop boot from there.
Unfortunately, where I work I am forced to use windows as my main operating system. I've just set up a VMware ubuntu, and whilst I was sceptical of the performance and compatibility both before (which is why I hadn't tried this earlier) and during the install, this works really really well. VMware configs already exist for ubuntu and are freely downloadable. All modifications and installations are saved and function well (unlike using a liveCD), and the setup runs really fast (my work PC is decent but not great - 3.4GHz HT P4, 256MB DDR2). The other thing I like is that the pseudo-disk is 7.5G in size which is certainly sufficient to install and run the things I want. The only thing that is slow is booting, but then it was always going to be. Tabbing between windows and linux is a dream!I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Friedrich for giving me the post of moderator!Happy installationsJoe
ZABBIX is a 24×7 monitoring solution without high cost. ZABBIX is software that monitors numerous parameters of a network and the health and integrity of servers. ZABBIX uses a flexible notification mechanism that allows users to configure e-mail based alerts for virtually any event. This allows a fast reaction to server problems. ZABBIX offers excellent reporting and data visualisation features based on the stored data. This makes ZABBIX ideal for capacity planning.http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/zabbix.htm
I have two networked dual booted computers & am trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 on both. Installation went well on the first set but failed on the second. The install proceeds past the point of checking hardware and loading files and gives me an options screen for installation but after that the screen goes black and the curser stops blinking. The Ubuntu startup music plays but thats as far as I can get. Is there something I can do to get past this pointThanks in advance to any kind helper. The computer setup is dual boot with windows xp & suse 10.0, there is a spare linux partition on the hdd for install (both computers setup the same). spec. for failed computer m/board=Albatron k8sli 64 bit, video= two Albatron pc6800 bridged, hdd= western digital 200 gig sata (wd2000js), cpu=amd Athlon xp 64 3500+, ram=2Gb hynix ddr400, mouse=logitechoptical wheelmouse & screen=chemei 19' wide tft. I have tried different monitors (crt & tft) also tried changing screen resolution at the options screen during installation with no sucess.
