Currently, I'm compiling Gaim 2.0.0-beta 3, going to test it out, the beta2 were great, but still, gaim lacks some msn messenger -only features, like custom smileys, I use those, that is why it is hard to start using gaim, now I've used amsn (cause it supports Webcam and custom smilies).
Dapper Drake will be awsome, when it is released, I hope that all the bugs are fixed for the final version, Open-Office has some nasty bugs, like now I'm using gnome 2.14.1 with default settings, and Open-Office has bug: I can't view the menu's nor icons. Screenshot here
This is my first blog entry, It's almost time for a summer vacation from the college, So I could format my computer happily from all the windows trash etc. (I have to use windows, cause the homework which require programs like Visual Basic 6/.NET, Photoshop CS2). But now I don't need those anymore, so I saw this as a change, to test the Dapper Drake.
Yesterday I installed the Dapper Drake flight 7, and I'm really happy about all this, XGL is working perfectly with Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT, I didn't even have to mess with the xorg.conf (much), but one thing I noticed, the DRI module is broken? or so I heard
mod@kaizoku:~$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: No
I tried everything to enable it, but no luck, I had some other problems too, like pressing shift & backspace, that zap's the X, like pressing ctrl+alt+backspace. I noticed some bugs in Konqueror 3.5 too, like the OS selection dropdown box at http://www.opera.com/ doesn't work, didn't really have time to check the sourcecode.

I have a really strange problem which I am hoping that someone here can fix. I have a T43 IBM thinkpad that I just loaded Breezy Badger on. The install went fine, and the startup splash screen come up just fine, but when it comes time for the login screen to come up the external monitor goes blank and says it has lost it's connection. The strange part is that when I remove the laptop from the docking station it comes up perfectly. I can login and use Gnome just fine.Is there some setting I need to change so that I can use Ubuntu on my external monitor? Thanks!Jason

Can anyone please help. I just installed linux 5.10 in a dual startup with WinXP. After I enter my username and password, Linux just hangs there. There's no icons or start menu and I can hear the CPU fan speading up-meaning the CPU is for some or other reason working quite hard. I then have to manually reset my PC.What can the problem be and what will sort it out.
I am reasonably new to linux having only had experience with some unix servers previously, but was coerced into installing ubuntu by an office buddy with too much linux love. Admittedly the coercion didn't take long, as I had attempted to install gentoo and got about a third of the way, by which point I was bored and annoyed. After installing hoary from cd I immediately upgraded to breezy so as to have a reasonably clean install. After destroying this operating system via a series of failed installations of various programs I gave up and reinstalled hoary. Everything works. Everything is stable. Everyting is easy with ubuntu. I love it. I can run everything I want and without crashing, stuttering, screen failure etc which windows delights in. I am currently writing a thesis in LaTex and was writing it in Windows. After the third mutilating crash and destruction of my thesis, again, I new I needed something different. Ubuntu was waiting. Truly great- and with easy bibtex editors too. And of course a little direction from the now ever friendly office buddy.
