Now if only I could get it to stay up and running, it seems that after about 5 or 6 minutes of inactivity the connection goes down. Do not get me wrong I think that Dapper has to one of the best distos I have used. I just hope that somebody out there can help. I would use 5.10 but it will not connect to the internet at all.

The developer of Ubuntu have released a new preview of Dapper Drake. It contains GNOME 2.14 and KDE 3.5.2 and the installer of the Live-CD now also works on PowerPCs. Kubuntu gets a new user-friendly packet management system called "adept_install" and the standard theme has slightly been reworked.
The Flight-CD 6 of Ubuntu 6.06 alias Dapper Drake including Live-CD and Ubuntu Server can be downloaded at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/flight6. The derivatives Kubuntu and Edubuntu can also be downloaded there in this new test version.
Hello all. I am trying to setup a Ununtu Linux box as a gateway/router running Asterisk to my office Linux box also running Ubuntu Linux/Asterisk. I need the Polycom IP phones to connect remotly to the office Linux box to receive and make calls. The office system is a fully functional working system using the Polycom IP phones. So far I cannot get the phones to work at the remote site routing through to office computer. They are fully functional at the remote site. I have tried to set up a gateway without any success and tried some routing configurations, again without any success. Help would be appreciated. The following is my current remote location configuration.1. The remote site is connected to DSL via a Westel Wirespeed modem2. The Westel Wirespeed modem connects to a D-Link router lan port 1.3. The WAN port on the D-Link router is not being used.
Hi .. First I like to say I am a newbie with this type of open source OS Linux and I have in the last 3 weeks read alot about how to do this and that , I have read other members posts as well , I do have to say I really like this OS , I am getting addicted to it , Within these 3 weeks I have learn alot and there is so much more to go , Though within this time I learn its best to have a couple of partition to be set up , One for swap , one for the /home , one just to keep blank/spare empty for future upgrades and lastly the OS itself , Now this is the part I am shock at , I couldn't find no where yet as to how to configure the set up for the hard drive to do such , WHY NOT ? I am trying to locate any type of data that would explain how to configure the hard drive for these partition , And this is only going to have Ubuntu OS on the hard drive , No other OS , Am I wrong here ? Shouldn't the very first lesson with any OS is how to set up the hard drive correctly ? Please if there is any
Dear all, I just installed Kubuntu 5.10 and every time I start up Firefox I get the following message in a popup window "The file /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html cannot be found. Please check the location and try again." So I looked up for this file and typed ll commands to follow the links: ll /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34 2006-03-30 21:33 /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html -> /etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage ll /etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 59 2006-03-30 21:33 /etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage -> /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html ll /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html ls: /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html: No such file or directory I can see that the actual file does not exist.

I have installed Ubuntu and generally find it very good. However, I have two problems that I need assistance with. Please keep all explanations at the “idiot” level – I'm very much a Linux newbie. 1) When I first installed Ubuntu it started up fine in the Human interface. However, now when I start up, I get the message:- GRUB Loading Stage 1.5 GRUB loading, please wait Press 'ESC' to enter the menu ... 2 pressing ESC gives me a list and after hitting ENTER the start up continues in the Human interface until it reaches 'Setting the system clock', at which point it goes into text only. This doesn't stop me using Ubuntu but it does irritate me. 2)I have downloaded KDE and installed it. However, I seem to have made it the default GUI and I want to make Gnome the default. How do I do that? Many thanks for any help offered
Hey all, this is my first time here so sorry if i do anything wrong or say something similarly. My problem is this;I have an unbuntu box with two network cards. One of which has a netgear ADSL modem attached. This connection successfully gets an IP address etc for the WAN connection. The second card is a on a class C home network, i.e. 192.168.0.1.For some reason a default route out to the first network card is not being set, if I set it usingroute add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the IP address is the address of the external connection then I can get a connection just fine. However route then forgets this default gateway (quickly), I've looked in the syslog and found that the DHCP client is probably causing this to happen. If I connect the modem to a Windoze box it works just fine.My questions are these;1. Should ubuntu be setting the default gateway route by itself? If so why do you think it isn't?
The Shoreline Firewall, more commonly known as "Shorewall", is a high-level tool for configuring Netfilter. You describe your firewall/gateway requirements using entries in a set of configuration files. Shorewall reads those configuration files and with the help of the iptables utility, Shorewall configures Netfilter to match your requirements. Shorewall can be used on a dedicated firewall system, a multi-function gateway/router/server or on a standalone GNU/Linux system. Shorewall does not use Netfilter's ipchains compatibility mode and can thus take advantage of Netfilter's connection state tracking capabilities.http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/shorewall.htm
