Need some help here. I am new to ubuntu - but have been using Knoppix for five years (another live linux cd). I downloaded ubuntu this morning, burned a cd, and attempted to boot up into ubuntu. CD in, turned computer on, and ubuntu started, selected language, and then selected to run ubuntu from the CD. Screen goes blank and then I get two lines[67-009171] ACPI:EC: acpi_ec_wait time out, status = 0, expect event=1[67-009220] ACP:EC - read timeout, command = 128And that is all I get. I tried 2 or 3 times before having to leave for work.Any ideas? Burn a new CD, or is there some other issue? Thanks, kc
Okay, I recently downloaded Ubuntu for my PC, to begin to replace the Microsoft XP OS I've been havng to put up with, but I've been having some issues I could use advice on. Whenever I try to login normally into Ubuntu it will play the login tune, then my screen will blank out and i end up back at the login screen a few seconds later. I've only ever been able to successfully log in using the "Failsafe GNOME" login setting, which I think may be a cause for my second problem, where my computer can't access the internet with the Wi-Fi connection I usually use, but only with a wired connection to the router. The WEP key is correct, but I can't access the internet without laying a cable between rooms. I don't have either of these problems when I start up XP, and I could really use some advice or tips on how to deal with this.

When I boot up my Ubuntu 8.04 (64-bit) to install it, my keyboard and mouse die, this combo came with the computer (Dell Dimension XPS 710), and I like having wireless devices, but it seems that Ubuntu is not fully compatible with these ones, however SUSE does, but I like Ubuntu better.
Is there any way of making them work, and avoid me spending money on another combo that works with Ubuntu.
I just moved to ubuntu 8.04 on my office PC and laptop, however when I tried to install Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit on my Dell Dimension XPS 710 which is bundled with two 320GB SATA Hard Drives tied together as a RAID ARRAY on the BIOS, I don't get the RAID volume, just the two hard drives separately, I really like to move from SUSE to ubuntu but this won't work for me. Anyone could help me finding a workaround to this ugly situation.
atftp is Multi-threaded TFTP server implementing all options (option extension and multicast) as specified in RFC1350, RFC2090, RFC2347, RFC2348 and RFC2349. Atftpd also supports multicast protocol known as mtftp, defined in the PXE specification. The server supports being started from inetd as well as in daemon mode using init scripts.

Hello,I am new to using Ubuntu; I installed version 7.10 and installed in in my virtual machine to test it. I did all of the updates and now I am upgrading to version 8.04 LTS.All of the updates are downloaded, the install begins and is about 3/4 of the way completed; howver, the system hangs up "installing new version of config file /etc/belocs/iso-639.def......Generating locales.....en_AU.UTF-8.....Can anyone provide any assistance with this please.Greatly appreciated.
Maximum Transmission Unit(MTU), the largest physical packet size, measured in bytes, that a network can transmit. Any messages larger than the MTU are divided into smaller packets before being sent.By optimizing the MTU setting you can gain substantial network performance increases, especially when using dial-up modem connections.
Hi.I have a new laptop for 4 days, and i decided to try ubuntu live cd. I went into the BIOS, boot up from the cd, but then ubuntu asked me to choose drivers for the monitor and the graphic card, and i choose a generic monitor, and a nvidia 8 series driver for the graphics card (my graphics card is a 9600gt, not a 8 series but i thought it would be ok...). After choosing the drivers i clicked "test" and then some messages appeared and the computer made a restart, but after the reset the monitor is always turned off and the HD doesn´t have any activity, I suppose it´s not starting windows..By the way, the last thing the monitor showed was a total white image before the restart.Im really pissed, never thought this could happen.I really apreciate any help. The notebook model is a LG S510. Maybe there is a way to put everything back into factory settings...
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. I currently have a setup at work in our accommodation blocks to allows users to access internet via wireless. I have users connecting to wifi routers, which currently ends up going through a transparent squid proxy. User's currently pay me for access to service where I will add there MAC access to access points, but this is alot of work. Is there a way I can control access to internet using my ubuntu squid proxy? E.g. user issued a password/key and once entred user has net access, so no key no internet. Any help would be could, and as a newbie to linux the clear it is, the better.

I currently have two MS Windows 2003 Servers running and I'd like to add a Ubuntu server to the mix so that I can learn a bit about Linux, php and MySQL.While I realize that most Linux servers are command line only, I would like to install a GUI front end because I simply don't have time right now to become familiar with the command line.I just installed the latest Ubuntu server but there was no option to install the GUI.After trying a few things I've read, I got the GUI working but apparently I'm missing a lot of GUI apps. So, I'd like to do a fresh install and include the GUI so that I'm certain that I have all of the pieces. Is there a straight forward way to do that? Thanks,Mac
