Please help! Ubuntu can't see my hard drive

I am trying to use Ubuntu 6.10 for the first time... Can see my new hitachi sata hard drive in the bios, but Ubuntu does not seem to find it during the installation. It gets to step 5 (of 6) partioning, and says "no device detected." I have no idea how to get Ubuntu to see it. Thanks!

It should work out of the box, what size is the drive and is it all connected properly (sorry have to ask since you mentioned it as a "new hitachi sata")

What type of sata controller is the drive connected to, and is the controller set up for any type of RAID?

I've got the same problem. No RAID and SATAII. Is there an argument I can add when i boot. tried both the Live and Alternate CD's.

Has anyone solved this problem ?? I am running a Shuttle XPC SS30G2, the install disk works with an ATA drive but not with an SATA drive. don
