Trouble reading full ipod disk!!!

I've been using Ubuntu for about 8 months now without a problem. I love it!I hadn't done an update for about 5 months until last week, when about 150 software updates went through. Now I'm having a problem.When I plug in my 40 GB ipod, ubuntu is only reading 11.9 GB of it. It's like I lost all the other disk space. The Ipod is fine because when I plug it into a windows machine, it reads the full 40GBs.Another wierd thing that happened is that, when I turn on my external HD, the icon won't show up on my desktop any more and I can't access it.Can anyone help me fix this problem?Thanks.
