I am reasonably new to linux having only had experience with some unix servers previously, but was coerced into installing ubuntu by an office buddy with too much linux love. Admittedly the coercion didn't take long, as I had attempted to install gentoo and got about a third of the way, by which point I was bored and annoyed. After installing hoary from cd I immediately upgraded to breezy so as to have a reasonably clean install. After destroying this operating system via a series of failed installations of various programs I gave up and reinstalled hoary. Everything works. Everything is stable. Everyting is easy with ubuntu. I love it. I can run everything I want and without crashing, stuttering, screen failure etc which windows delights in. I am currently writing a thesis in LaTex and was writing it in Windows. After the third mutilating crash and destruction of my thesis, again, I new I needed something different. Ubuntu was waiting. Truly great- and with easy bibtex editors too. And of course a little direction from the now ever friendly office buddy.
